Restaurant Farmstay Valmenera Cansiglio

The Malga Agriturismo Valmenera is a rustic mountain house where shepherds bring their animals to enjoy the fresh air in the summertime. The malga also welcomes tourists and visitors with food and shelter whilst surrounded by the green pastures and woodlands of Cansiglio by the Venetian Alps.

Malga Agriturismo Valmenera: the menu, tradition on your plate

The menu of the malga offers the typical culinary specialties of the Cansiglio and Alpago regions, without external influence. Among these dishes are canèderli —a kind of dumpling which is very common all over the alps— and beef stew, as well as tagliatelle with Alpagota lamb— an ovine race protected by the Slow Food Foundation. Other specialties of the malga include pastìn —a kind of fresh sausage from Alpago—polenta, and frico—the traditional grilled cheese.

Vegetarian dishes are only a handful, but undoubtedly delicious: porcini mushrooms risotto, and ricotta and dandelion casoncelli—a shell-shaped stuffed pasta. All the recipes are prepared with meats and dairy from animals farmed in site.

Lastly, you can sample the range of regional wines as well as the house desserts, freshly prepared with seasonal ingredients by chef Cesarina.

Affordable prices

Dining at the malga is affordable, with a full meal ranging between 20 and 40 euros.

Take some Cansiglio and Alpago home with you: the local produce

Guests and visitors who want to bring home a little piece of Cansiglio can stop by the malga’s deli, where you can buy alpine style salami (with and without garlic) and ham, musetto —a gelatinous pork sausage to eat boiled— and, most of all, the Valmenera cold cut, prepared with accurately selected meat cuts.

Top selling dairy products include fresh, aged, or smoked ricotta, as well as the house cheese, both available in their fresh form and/or aged in wine. All produce exclusively comes from the malga’s in-house farm.

Not only restaurant: the hotel and b&b rooms

For those who want to spend the night, the malga Valmenera offers seven rooms in total; all rooms come with en-suite bathroom. The structure can host up to guests.

What to do in the area: activities

The malga is strategically located to be the starting point of hikes and horse rides in the woods of Cansiglio. In wintertime, guests can also engage in winter activities such as ciaspolesnowshoes, or in skiing activities in the nearby ski-camp.
